YELLOWKNIFE (March 16, 2009) – The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Youth Ambassadors Program was announced today by the Honourable Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA). MACA is looking for 33 young, vibrant people to represent the Northwest Territories (NWT) at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver as Youth Ambassadors.

“The 2010 Olympics and Paralympics in Vancouver and Whistler present a significant opportunity for the development of young northern leaders,” said Minister McLeod. “The Youth Ambassadors Program will provide youth with an opportunity to build leadership skills through volunteer assignments at the Games and act as ambassadors for the NWT.”

Youth Ambassadors will be chosen based on their interests, experience and what they hope to achieve from the experience as an Ambassador. To qualify for the program, youth must be between 17 to 25 years of age on September 1, 2009. The deadline to apply is April 24, 2009.

Information about the Youth Ambassadors Program, including application forms, can be found on the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs website.
