YELLOWKNIFE (June 5, 2009)20/20: A Brilliant North, the Northwest Territories (NWT) Public Service Strategic Plan, was released today by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT).

This highly anticipated strategic plan and the supporting three-year Action Plan clearly communicate the actions needed to improve human resource management and support the GNWT’s strategic priority of effective and efficient government through the delivery of public services with a public focus.

The two-part plan includes both a Strategic Plan which illustrates the mission, vision, long-term strategic goals and key initiatives and a detailed supporting Action Plan which identifies the actions, timeframes and measurable performance results required to make continued progress in implementing the Strategic Plan.

“This plan allows the GNWT to proactively work toward the continued development of our most treasured resource: our employees. When fully implemented, this plan will guarantee that our service to our public, the people of the North, is the best in Canada,” said the Honourable Robert R. McLeod, Minister of Human Resources.

20/20: A Brilliant North includes plans to work in collaboration with Aboriginal and community governments to guide the development of public service across the Northwest Territories and to work towards the GNWT becoming the employer of choice in the NWT by 2020.
