GNWT Support for MGP Still Strong – Minister McLeod
R(16)224 - Thursday, June 18, 2009Support for the APG, and the model it represents for Aboriginal and Northern participation in the Mackenzie Gas Project (MGP) , is just one part of the GNWT’s ongoing work and focus to help position NWT residents to take advantage of exploration and development that the project will provide.
In a panel presentation at the Inuvik Petroleum Show Wednesday, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Bob McLeod, said that despite the long process, he is assured that the challenges facing the MGP are clearly recognized and will be addressed – and that Arctic Gas Development will proceed.
“We remain focused on the goal of diversification, social and economic strength, and a bright future for current and future generations of NWT residents – those who live here today and those who will be drawn to our bountiful, exciting, and dynamic land,” Mr. McLeod said.
The Minister also echoed the Premier’s insistence that urgent decisions be made. “We must not miss this window of opportunity,” he said.
The Government of Northwest Territories is working to advance the sustainable development of its resources to ensure the long term security, self-sufficiency and social well being of NWT residents.
“The Mackenzie Gas Project represents a once-in-a-millennium opportunity to build a healthy, prosperous and vibrant livelihood,” the Minister said.
