To promote closer ties within the Northern construction industry, the Department of Public Works and Services will be hosting a project management conference in Yellowknife from November 17th to 19th, 2009.

The theme of the conference is Latest Trends and Innovative Approaches in Project Management – Helping Northerners Prepare for Tomorrow. It is designed to encourage cooperation within the construction industry, and help prepare it to better meet economic, legal and technical challenges, while maximizing economic benefits for the industry.

Over 300 representatives are expected to attend. They come from the private sector and all levels of government, including officials from Crown corporations, communities, local housing authorities, school and health boards, consulting and contracting companies, associations, manufacturers and suppliers.

In keeping with the Legislative Assembly’s priority of Northerners Working Together, the department holds this professional development conference once every two years to help people in the Northern construction industry connect with each other and keep up to date with the best practices and latest trends and innovations in the industry.

“The construction industry forms the foundation of the Northwest Territories,” said Minister of Public Works and Services Michael McLeod. “This conference will help build cooperation and partnership among the men and women who have built – and continue to build – our North.”

During the conference, the Northwest Territories Construction Association will be hosting a Northern Construction Trade Fair, to provide a venue for northern manufacturers, suppliers and service providers to promote their products, supplies and services.

The conference program and registration form are available electronically at http://www.pws.gov.nt.ca/asset/conference.htm.
