More than 100 million beverage containers have been returned to depots in the Northwest. First started four years ago, the Beverage Container Program reflects the Government of the Northwest Territory’s commitment to maintaining our environment and creating opportunities for Northerners.

“This is a remarkable achievement,” said Minister of Environment and Natural Resources J. Michael Miltenberger. “NWT residents should be truly proud of themselves for what they have accomplished in embracing this program, and demonstrating how much they value the maintenance of our pristine environment.”

The Minister, speaking at the Yellowknife Bottle Depot, particularly thanked the workers who operate the licensed depots across the Northwest Territories, run by stores, schools, non-profit groups, band development corporations, individuals, and businesses. To date, the depots have processed over 800 tons of aluminum and 17 million plastic containers.
